CloudPlanter was the a research product I created for the final study of my PhD research. Inside each planter is a hidden moisture sensor that quietly sends data to its paired planter somewhere else in the world. Users would watch small fluctuations rise and fall: dryness, watering, the slow rhythm of a living plant. Nothing dramatic. Nothing loud. Yet through these signals, two people caring for two plants could feel a trace of each other's presence. A small but powerful fulfilment of their psychological need for relatedness.
